In fact, I was about to post some details in your other thread about providing a legal table and description of costs. If you want, I can still email you about the debacle we ran into with my former company.
In a nutshell, we developed a piece of software and the patent was pending. We did have a lot of legal rights just from the pending status, but we had to deal with not one but FOUR companies infringing upon it. We started a case with one of them and before the ink had even dried we had three other companies pop up out of nowhere. The overall costs had started to skyrocket and we hadn't even had a return on the investment just yet. In the end we had to scrap the entire project because it was taking up too much time and we were not able to complete jobs we were already undertaking.
I wished that our lawyers would have been able to do more on their own but it was a tech related subject and we had to be a part of explaining why things were a certain way. It just wasn't worth it and we lost money and more importantly, the desire to come up with something new fell by the wayside. At least that's the impression I got from my boss who was so sick of it all he wanted out of the IT business.
Sounds like an afterschool special, I know, but it's reality for some of us.
